Have you scheduled your semi-annual HVAC maintenance yet? As we’re sure you’ve read repeatedly, it is recommended that you schedule maintenance on your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system at least twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. We recommend this for a number of reasons.
Why You Need AC Maintenance
Prevention
Regular HVAC maintenance is great for preventing major problems from occurring or noticing issues before they become catastrophic. Most of the biggest HVAC problems start small and slowly grow into something much larger over time, so staying on top of maintenance nips these issues in the bud.
Savings
By catching problems before they become major, you’ll save yourself a lot of money on repairs and damage control. This is a good reminder to never wait too long to make repairs on any aspect of your home.
What’s Included in a Maintenance Check
A maintenance appointment will look different depending on the type of system you have and its age and a few other factors, but they all look somewhat similar.
- Checking the thermostat settings to ensure the cooling and heating system keeps you comfortable during the day and saves energy at night.
- Measure voltage and current on motors and tighten all electrical connections. Having faulty electrical connections can result in unreliable operation of your system and shortened component life.
- Make sure the condensate drain in your central air conditioner, furnace, or heat pump (when in cooling mode) is clean. A clogged drain can cause water damage in the house and affect indoor humidity levels.
