How to Turn Off Water to a Sink

1. Locate the Shut-Off Valves
Open the cabinet under the sink. You’ll see two small valves connected to the water lines (hot and cold).

2. Identify the Valves
They are usually small round or oval handles attached to flexible supply lines.

3. Turn the Valves Clockwise
Turn each valve clockwise until it stops to shut off the water supply to the sink.
IF THE SHUT-OFF VALVE IS DIFFICULT TO TURN, FORCING IT MAY RESULT IN THE VALVE BREAKING AND CAUSING A FLOOD. PLEASE CALL A PLUMBER BEFORE APPLYING EXCESS FORCE.

4. Test the Water
Turn on the faucet to confirm the water is off. A small amount of residual water may drain out briefly.

5. If the Valve Is Stuck
Do not force it. A stuck valve may require repair or replacement.

When to Call a Plumber
If the shut-off valve is leaking, stuck, or not fully stopping water flow, it’s best to have it inspected by a licensed plumber.
